Swansea league message from Dave Bendle

August 13, 2023

Message below from Swansea fixture secretary Dave Bendle:

Good afternoon everyone.

League fixtures are due to commence the first week of September.

I have uploaded the league fixtures to the league website sawgba.wordpress.com

I have used the League Republic Software to help compile them but obviously this is still a manual process.
Fixtures, scores and tables will be available to view SAWGBA – Home (leaguerepublic.com).

Reporting scores will be different this year.
To streamline the process, I will ONLY be using an online form https://forms.gle/XxXVqvbyk44bhm4P7

Please use the scoresheet attached (download in footer) and complete the online form using the QR code printed on it.

This will make it far simpler to keep on top of both players and results as there will be a record of every submission. Some of you already helped me test this system in the later parts of last season.

Consensus supported paperless system and the decrease in the number of emails needed.

The role of fixture secretary is very time consuming and if we move towards making better use of the technology available, this would mean  energy and resource can be better spent elsewhere in the various commitments of the role.

I want to confirm that i will not be moving fixtures, as doing so will create congestion somewhere else.
We tried this last season with no success.

I have attached the player and team registration form. Please complete it and send it to me as soon as you can. Please register players based on ability regardless of age. The league needs to be fair for every club entering and if a player is being successful in tournaments or representing the County then they have no business being below your first team unless there are 6 Players of the same level. The same goes for anyone that is selected at this year’s County trials. Again though, please no sheets of paper or emails other than a completed spreadsheet.

I was keen to make sure last season was about getting people back on court and playing matches, but we are all back now and it’s time for the league to work for every player registered.

I am away until at least Thursday this week, please familiarise yourself with the new systems and start putting your registrations together.

Kind regards.
Dave Bendle
SAWGBA Chairperson & Fixture Secretary.

No Courts on 8th or 12th December

December 7, 2022

From Deb:
We have been working closely with Archbishop Magrath School over the last week or so to try and resolve an issue with exams desks during the school exam period. Currently Archbishop McGrath school do not have the resources to take down and set up the 140 exam desks which are required for their winter exams.

In talks with the new head teacher, we have made it clear that the dual use service requires the use of the sports hall and studio for community activity from 5:00pm onwards. However as a service we are also unable to provide enough support to enable the desks to be moved on this occasion.

We have looked across our other dual use sites to offer a relocation where we can, free of charge (this may be a slightly different time slot). We understand this is not ideal for all clubs/bookings and we have agreed with the school that this will be the only time we will cancel community bookings related to exams due to the circumstance. All clubs/bookings affected will receive two weeks free of facility hire in January 2023.

Once again we apologise for the short notice and the disruption to your club/community sessions.

Dates affected: 8th and 12th December 2022
